LOOKING AHEAD TO FALL 2016.....

The Adult Choir members are back rehearsing after a short summer break.  We have begun rehearsing music for Christmas and for the Fall masses.   This includes Advent Antiphons and special music to be sung 30-minutes before the Christmas Eve Midnight Mass.  The Adult Choir is meeting on Wednesdays in the sanctuary from 6:30-8:00 p.m. through September 7th.  Beginning on Wednesday, September 14th, we will begin rehearsing from 7:00-8:30 p.m.

The Jesus Choir will beginning rehearsing again on Wednesday, September 14th, 6:00-6:45 p.m. in the sanctuary.  This is for children and youth 3rd grade and up. Our first "rehearsal" will include a pizza dinner and fun, musical games.

Schola Sancti Joseph continues to rehearse on Thursdays, 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the sanctuary.  This choir is learning Gregorian Chant and Latin, and will lead the music for the High Mass in the Extraordinary Form that will take place the 1st Sunday of each month at 2:00 p.m.

Listen for new voices leading the mass music through cantoring!  These are individuals who have completed the 1st year of Saint Joseph's Cantor Camp and who are now in the apprentice stage of cantoring.  Please pray for these individuals as they begin their new ministry at Saint Joseph.

SAINT JOSEPH MUSIC MINISTRY

Saint Joseph Catholic Church's Music Ministry offers several options for people who sing, who play a musical instrument, or who enjoy music in general.

The following choirs and ensembles are offered:

Adult Choir-The Adult Choir rehearses on Wednesdays, 7:00-8:30 pm in the sanctuary balcony.  This choir sings traditional music, chants, psalms, and hymns.  A Choir Mass is sung at one mass on the 3rd weekend of the month.  On other weekends, choir members may choose which mass at which they wish to sing.

Jesus Choir-This is Saint Joseph's Children's Choir (grades Kindergarten-5th).  Rehearsal time is Wednesdays, 6:00-6:45 p.m. in the sanctuary.  This choir is learning chant (English and Latin).  Participants also sing traditional music, along with fun "get 'em up and move 'em around" music.

Schola Sancti Joseph-Saint Joseph's Schola rehearses on Thursdays, 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the sanctuary.  This choir provides individuals the opportunity to learn to read and sing Gregorian Chant and Latin.  Members lead the music for the High Mass in the Extraordinary Form (Missae Cantate or sung mass).  This mass will take place beginning September 4, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. and will continue on the 1st Sunday of each month at 2:00 p.m.

Cantor Camp-Cantor Camp meets one week during the summer in conjunction with Vacation Bible School.  Participants meet for one hour after VBS to learn about the order of mass, singing and breathing techniques, and how to use the microphone.  Participants must be an active member of either the Adult or Jesus Choirs.

The liturgical music at Saint Joseph is taken from the Worship IV hymnal.  The mass setting is sung in chant and, depending on the liturgical season, may either be sung in English or in Latin.
